Captured and taken to the enemy’s camp,

I stood tall and without a hint of fear or doubt,

I said it out loud,

“I cannot tell you more than that.”

You saved the life of a soldier from across the enemy lines.

You saved him from the mob that wanted his life.

Treated him with respect, as a soldier would to another,

And marked his safe return

To his country without any harm.

Tomorrow will be another strife ridden, bloody day.

It will again leave no scope between us to connect.

You will wield your sword,

I will shoot my arrows,

The wounds will deepen,

Chance of resolution will seem quite narrow.

But let’s hope that this extraordinary exchange between us

Lights up hearts on both sides of the border and let’s hope it does.
